RPL stands for Recognition of Prior Learning. It is a process whereby your assessor gauges your level of knowledge and skills by looking at your work experience, life experience and previous studies. It’s about you as the candidate showing us what you know and what you can do, rather than All Construction Assessment and Training teaching you what you already know.
When you register for RPL with NSPI, you are sent an RPL checklist which outlines the steps of the process, asks you to provide some information about your industry skills and experience, and lists examples of the kinds of information/documentation required by your assessor to determine your level of skills and knowledge against the units that make up the course you register for.
The kinds of evidence your assessor may need to see could include:
Your assessor will give you feedback on the information you provide and may set up a time for an appointment to discuss it further.
The final stage is an onsite assessment where you assessor negotiates with you a time and venue to observe you carrying out certain stages of the works key to the course you are undertaking.
